It is our belief that a child's
most significant learning takes place from birth to age 6,
a stage Maria Montessori referred to as "the absorbent
mind". We believe that movement preceded thought and
that learning takes place most ideally in an environment
that allows children to explore abstract concepts through
hands-on experiences. Our teaching method is a child-centered
approach that utilizes ongoing observation by the teacher
to determine and respond to individual needs. This maximizes
each child's academic and personal success.
We consider that each child is unique and that children at this age develop and
progress at their own pace. We treat each child with respect and encourage our
students to do the same in their interactions with others, incorporating grace
and courtesy into our daily routine. We see a child's education as the result
of many influences, including, parents, teachers, peers and the natural world.
To this end, we place a strong emphasis on building the support and direct involvement
of our parents, both in and out of the classroom.
